Hebden Bridge, UK (January 13, 2009)--A pair of Calrec Alpha consoles linked by a Hydra Network System were utilized by Maryland Public Television (MPT) to tape an HD performance by Baltimore's orchestra and chorus, Soulful Symphony.
"I am always impressed by the solid performance of the Calrec Alpha consoles and how well they are integrated via the Hydra Networking System," said Jim Bigwood, audio supervisor at Maryland Public Television. "For this enormous project, we also added a borrowed remote input/output box (RIOB), and frankly, I was apprehensive about the headaches of integrating a new piece of equipment into the system. As it turned out, there were none. It was a snap both to add the RIOB and to subtract it later. To my mind, this is another example of Calrec's flexible, robust, and functional technology."
MPT's production is the broadcast premiere of "Song in a Strange Land," a 90-minute composition by Soulful Symphony founder and artistic director, Darin Atwater. The work traces the evolution of African-American music from its origins through the jazz era. The show, currently in postproduction, will be broadcast in late February as part of MPT's Artworks series.
